crim1993 / Origin note

Before platforms, there was a call sign.

The identity came first. The archive arrived decades later.

In the mid-1990s, a username was not a brand strategy. It was simply the name that followed you into a game, a lobby or an online world.

crim1993 lasted because it carried real history. “Crim” held the crimson association. “1993” pointed back to a year tied to the 200-meter performance that defined an era of Tod’s sprinting career. The tag moved from one platform to another long before anyone called that continuity an identity system.

The archive came later.

Decades of games accumulated across PC, console and mobile platforms. Some were completed, some revisited, some still active. The eventual website did not invent the identity. It gave the identity a place to remember itself.

A durable name is not the same thing as a polished brand. Sometimes durability is the proof.

That makes crim1993 one of the earliest projects in this record—not because it began as a formal venture, but because it established a pattern that appears everywhere else: choose a name with meaning, carry it forward and eventually build the right home around it.
